Cloud Café & Bar after dark
Where to go in Colombo at night is a question with a short answer if you are staying with us. The roof opens at half past five, and this is how an evening there goes.
Colombo is a different city after sunset. The heat lifts, the traffic thins, and the skyline comes on. The best place to watch it happen is from above, which is the whole idea of Cloud Café & Bar: a rooftop at the top of the hotel, part of it under a glass roof, with the city on three sides.
Half past five
The roof opens at 17:30, and the first hour is the quiet one. Take a seat at the edge, order something long, and watch the light go. Happy hour runs until eight, with half off selected drinks, except on Poya days, when no alcohol is served anywhere in Sri Lanka and the roof is at its most peaceful.

Dinner
The kitchen is semi fine dining, which means it takes the food seriously without asking you to. Pizza and pasta from the oven, salads, starters to share, and Indian and Western plates. The sharing platters are the thing to order for a table that keeps talking; ask for one in advance if you are a large group. Dinner under the glass roof carries on until last orders at half past eleven.

The view
Beira Lake and the towers around it to the north, the Lotus Tower to the east, and the sea somewhere beyond the rooftops to the west, where the sun goes down. It is not the tallest roof in Colombo, and that is a virtue: you are close enough to the streets to hear the city without being in it.

Some nights
On some evenings there is live acoustic music on the roof. Ask the team what is coming up when you book, or just come; it is a small stage and the music is there to sit under, not to shout over.

Coming as a visitor
You do not need to be staying at the hotel. Walk-ins are welcome, reservations are wiser at weekends, and the lift goes straight to the roof from the lobby. Where to eat in Colombo 3 puts the roof in context with the rest of the neighbourhood.
