Colombo Court Blog The Hotel

Why host your event at Colombo Court, and which venue to choose

Five venues in one building, none of them a ballroom. The garden, the roof, The Loft, the Scarlet Room and the library, with what each does best and how many it holds.

The event is on the calendar. A birthday, an anniversary, the company dinner, a launch. The venue is the decision everything else hangs on, and in Colombo the choice usually comes down to a hotel ballroom or a restaurant that is a little too small. We are neither. Here is what we have instead, and what each space is best at.

The poolside garden

Sixteen hundred square feet of planted garden with the pool at its centre, under trees that have stood here for the best part of a century, strung with lights at night. It takes up to 120 guests at a banquet and is the venue people picture when they think of us: weddings, receptions, birthday lunches and long dinners. Seating can be anything from long tables to cocktail standing, and because it is outdoors the menu can include live cooking stations as well as buffets and set menus.

Cloud Café & Bar

The roof: 2,500 square feet, partly under a glass roof, with a bar and the skyline. Up to ninety at a banquet or sixty seated. It comes into its own after dark, for cocktail parties, farewells and family gatherings that want a view.

The Loft

An indoor bar and lounge of 775 square feet, with the tractor-seat bar stools. Forty-five seated or thirty for drinks. The right size for a private party that wants to be inside, with air-conditioning and its own bar.

The Scarlet Room

Our meeting room, on the first floor, with a projector and screen: thirty theatre-style, twenty-five in a boardroom or classroom layout. In the evening it becomes a private dining room lined with black and white photographs.

The library

One table for eight, floor-to-ceiling shelves and no screen. For a board meeting that wants to think, or a dinner for eight that wants to be left alone.

What comes with all of them

A team who have done this many times, a kitchen that will build a menu around you, and the freedom to bring your own decorator, band or photographer. Music finishes at half past ten, under Sri Lankan noise rules. Minimum spend depends on the occasion, the venue and the date. The venues are here, with galleries, and the enquiry form reaches the events team directly.
