Linen for the children’s ward at IDH
When dengue filled Sri Lanka’s infectious diseases hospital past its capacity, the shortage was not beds but sheets. That is something a hotel can help with.
The Infectious Diseases Hospital in Angoda, known in Colombo simply as IDH, is the country’s only hospital dedicated to infectious disease. In a bad dengue season it fills far beyond its capacity. During one such season the paediatric ward, Ward 2, had more than twice as many children as beds, and the shortage that stopped them admitting more was not space or staff. It was clean linen.
A hotel has a great deal of linen. When the call came from the ward’s doctor, the answer was easy. Our team took bed sheets and pillowcases to Ward 2, for the children first and for the other wards when needed, so that the hospital could turn beds around faster and take in more of the children waiting.

Why we tell this story
Not because the donation was large. It was not. We tell it because it is the kind of help a small hotel is well placed to give, quickly and without ceremony, and because we would like other businesses in Colombo to know that IDH will take the call. Sheets, pillowcases and towels are things every hotel replaces on a schedule, and there is always a ward that needs them more than a linen cupboard does.
Giving back is part of how Colombo Court is run, alongside the plants we give away, the beach clean-ups our team join and the local suppliers we buy from. The rest of it is on our sustainability page.
