Colombo Court Hotel & Spa Hosts ‘tree Of The Year’ Sri Lanka Awards Ceremony

‘Tree of the Year – Sri Lanka’ concluded its 2017 competition with a formal award ceremony last week, which was held at the Amber Poolside Indoor Lounge of Asia’s FIRST CarbonNeutral® City Hotel – Colombo Court Hotel & Spa. The hotel was selected due to its continued commitment towards sustainability and its unique focus on the environment.

The contest is organised by The Carbon Consulting Company (CCC), the region’s leading provider of integrated sustainability solutions and are known for their dynamic endeavours in the field. The premise of the contest was simple; identify trees of special importance to individuals and local communities in the hope that it would ignite a movement to preserve Sri Lanka, and subsequently Asia’s, biodiversity heritage.

Participants were required to tell the story of their chosen tree. This could include myths, beliefs, historical data or local testimony about the tree, and why it holds a special place to themselves or the local community as a whole. The top three were awarded prize money and were entered into the regional competition – ‘Asian Tree of the Year’ 2017.

Following the announcement of winners, the event moved to the poolside as organisers and participants alike discussed their ‘tree stories’.
